Want to practise Swedish citizenship test questions? On medborgaretest.se you train with over 1000 practice questions on Swedish society, built on the same knowledge areas as the official test — and you can try a real question right below. The citizenship test becomes a requirement for Swedish citizenship from 6 June 2026 and, according to the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR), consists of around 60 multiple-choice questions based on UHR's free study material Sverige i fokus. The questions assess basic knowledge of Swedish society, not language.

What the questions on the citizenship test look like
Before you start practising, it helps to know the format. According to UHR the test consists of around 60 multiple-choice questions with four answer options, one of which is correct. The time limit is 90 minutes, the test is written on paper and in Swedish.
In July 2026 UHR published five official example questions on its website — the first examples of how the test questions may be designed. They cover topics such as the role of the public sector, Sweden's head of state, natural resources, history and freedom of expression. One example, according to UHR: "What title does Sweden's head of state hold?" with the options Speaker of the Riksdag, King, County Governor and Prime Minister — where King is the correct answer.
Five examples aren't enough to practise with, though. They show the format and level, but the test contains around 60 questions that can touch any of the material's thirteen chapters. To feel confident you need to practise broadly — and that's where a large question bank makes the difference. Practice questions here and elsewhere are modelled on the same knowledge areas and give the breadth the five official examples can't.
Where do the questions come from?
Every question on the test is drawn from UHR's study material Sverige i fokus. The material's introduction states it plainly: "The test will be based on this material." The material is free to download from UHR and comes as both a PDF and an audio file.
The content is divided into thirteen chapters, from Landet Sverige (The country of Sweden) to Traditioner och högtider (Traditions and holidays), together covering the core civics areas: democracy, how Sweden is governed, law and justice, human rights, the labour market, welfare and history. If you want to see how the topics fit together, read about the seven knowledge areas, and a full walkthrough is in the guide to the study material Sverige i fokus.
The point is simple: everything you need to know is in the material. Good practice questions mirror that content area by area.
How to practise the questions – smart, not just a lot
Flicking through hundreds of questions feels productive, but it's how you practise that decides whether the knowledge sticks. Here's how to get the most out of practice questions:
- Practise in rounds by knowledge area. Take one area at a time — say Så här styrs Sverige (How Sweden is governed) — and run questions until you answer correctly consistently before moving on.
- Read the explanation, not just the answer key. The person who understands why an answer is right can also handle questions phrased in a new way. Memorising an isolated letter can't do that.
- Use your mistakes as a map. Every wrong answer points to a chapter in Sverige i fokus you need to reread. Go back to the material, read the section, then practise again.
- Do a full round at the end. Once you feel confident on the parts, run a mixed round that mirrors the test's breadth — around 60 questions across all areas.
That loop — practise, see where you get stuck, read, practise again — is exactly what 1000+ practice questions on medborgaretest.se are built for. You see right away which areas you need to build out before test day. If you also want a concrete weekly plan, it's in the guide to studying for the citizenship test.
Active practice beats passive reading
Research on learning tends to boil down to one simple principle: retrieving an answer from memory fixes knowledge better than reading the same text one more time. That's why practice questions are such an effective complement to Sverige i fokus — they force the brain to actively recall, not just recognise.
Multiple-choice questions also often build in "tempting" wrong options that sit close to the correct one. That tests whether you can really tell the counties from the municipalities, or EU membership from NATO membership. Practising on such questions trains exactly that precision.
If you want to see what individual questions and answers can look like, with explanations, there are twelve worked examples in the article on Swedish citizenship test sample questions with answers.
FAQ
Are there real Swedish citizenship test questions to practise on?
In July 2026 UHR published five official example questions on uhr.se — the first examples of how the test questions may be designed. Beyond those five, there are no further official questions or a complete question bank. The practice questions available from us and others are modelled on the knowledge areas in Sverige i fokus and give the breadth the five official examples can't.
How many questions are on the Swedish citizenship test?
According to UHR the test consists of around 60 multiple-choice questions with four answer options, one of which is correct. The time limit is 90 minutes, and the test is written on paper in Swedish. The questions assess basic knowledge of Swedish society based on the study material Sverige i fokus.
Where can I practise questions for the test?
You can start practising for free on medborgaretest.se, where you train with over 1000 practice questions on Swedish society. UHR's study material Sverige i fokus is also free to download and is the source all content is based on.
How many practice questions do I need to do?
There is no fixed number. Practise until you consistently answer correctly within each knowledge area. What matters is not the number of questions but using your wrong answers to find which chapters of Sverige i fokus you need to reread.
Is practising questions enough to pass?
No. Practice questions show where you stand, but you build the knowledge by reading Sverige i fokus and then practising. UHR has not yet published the pass mark, so plan to know the whole material rather than aim for a particular percentage.
Next step
Practice questions are the fastest way to see where you stand — and the most effective way to get ready. Work through Sverige i fokus area by area, practise with questions, see where you answer wrong and go back to the right chapter.
