The citizenship test has been a requirement for Swedish citizenship since 6 June 2026 and, according to the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR), consists of around 60 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, based on the free study material Sverige i fokus. The questions below are illustrative and modelled on the material's chapters — not official test questions.
How many grounds of discrimination are listed in the Discrimination Act (diskrimineringslagen)?
How to take the practice test
This practice test is set up like a real exam: all the questions first, then the answer key. Here is how to get the most out of it:
- Answer on paper. Write 1–40 on a sheet of paper and note one letter per question before looking at the key.
- Set a timer for 60 minutes. The real test gives roughly 90 minutes for around 60 questions — about a minute and a half per question. At the same pace, 40 questions correspond to about an hour.
- Guess rather than skip. On a multiple-choice test it always pays to answer.
- Score yourself afterwards with the key further down, and note which areas your mistakes belong to.
If you would rather have the answer right under each question, there are 40 sample questions with answers in our article on Swedish citizenship test questions. If you prefer practising digitally, you can take a free test online.

How to read your result
UHR has not published a pass mark for the citizenship test, so promise yourself not to stare at a particular percentage. Use the result as a map instead:
- Count your mistakes per subject area, not just the total. Three mistakes in Law and justice tell you more than the number 35 out of 40.
- Reread the chapters where the mistakes are in Sverige i fokus — the material is free to download from UHR and everything on the test is drawn from it.
- Retake the test after a week or so. The goal is to answer correctly consistently within every area, not to pass one good round.
What is free — and what is official?
Everything you need to prepare is free. UHR's study material Sverige i fokus costs nothing, and UHR has published five official example questions showing how real test questions may be designed — we go through them in detail in the article on Swedish citizenship test example questions.
At the same time, be aware of what is not official: the practice questions in this article, like all other practice material from private providers, are interpretations of the material. UHR has not endorsed practice material from any private provider. Good practice questions are a complement to Sverige i fokus — never a replacement.
On medborgaretest.se you can start practising for free in the same multiple-choice format, with explanations for every answer and a clear view of which areas you need to train more.
